May Crowning
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
May is the month of Mary...the month we crown her our Queen of Heaven.
The queen symbol was attributed to Mary because she is a perfect follower of Christ, who is the absolute 'crown' of creation.
She is the perfect follower of Christ. The maid of Nazareth consented to God's plan; she journeyed on the pilgrimage of faith; she listened to God's word and kept it in her heart; she remained steadfastly in close union with her Son, all the way to the foot of the cross; she persevered in prayer with the Church.
Mary's prayers for us and our intentions are requested. We rejoice with her that one day we may share her dignity when we ourselves may receive the "crown of glory."
It is a tradition of the church to honor Mary in this visible way of crowning her with a crown of flowers and laying flowers at her feet. Each of the students bring flowers and the second grade class that has just recently received their first communion has the honor of bringing her crown and placing it on her head. Jonathan had the specific honor of carrying Mary's crown because his class voted him most like St. Joseph because he is very kind, helpful and a hard worker. What an honor. He and Ella Williams lead their class procession into church. They were both beaming. Ave Maria.
