Sixteen

There are milestones in our lives almost every day.  How could there not be?  We don't always celebrate them...sometimes we don't even always recognize them.  This one was a little difficult NOT to recognize though.  Sixteen years ago, life was a little different.  Calmer, quieter...boringer...I know, that's not a word.  I honestly don't feel like it was really that long ago and yet I can't really believe it was so long ago!!
I looked sort of like this 16 years ago...but it was the tall one on my left that was the small one within!!  Crazy right??
Happy 16th birthday Jakob!
We are so proud of the amazing young man you have become today.
Somehow it is more fun to make breakfast look like this for someone who is not 4.  :)
There must be something a bit more exciting about turning 16 than the other ages that made you wake up with a smile this time...could it be driving privileges?  :)
We celebrated your birthday at Sunday brunch with neighborhood friends--something we've all come to enjoy very much over the summer months.  You share your day with the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross!

Despite the fact that brunch was merely 7 blocks away, you drove "your" truck (the one that is a year older than you that was your grandpa's, then your dad's and now for you to drive) with eager and excited siblings strapped in beside you, ready to ride with their big brother.  Pretty exciting stuff!  Each one of them helped clean and polish that truck the day before so that it would be ready for your special day.  I don't know why I didn't take a picture!!  They're all so proud of you!
Happy birthday Jakob.  We love you.
