Not So Little Anymore!

Happy birthday dear Amelia!  Eight!  It seems a bit crazy to be celebrating another birthday.  Your grandpa teases you about eating, or not eating so that you won't grow anymore and we can keep you little!  I wish I could bottle your littleness up, but I enjoy every year that you grow too!
You are special!!  You have always played so well by yourself, with others and now you keep your little sisters occupied with imaginary play so often.  You have a gift of play.  Most often you are playing school or house or creating plays.  In each you are the director!  Giving everyone suggestions on what to say, what to do, etc, etc!  This year, you share a room with your older and next younger sister.  You love to help in the kitchen and hate to help with most other things.  You are incredibly capable of many things that most 8 year olds haven't ever even thought of doing.  You love playing soccer and reading, and you're a really good student.  I almost never have to ask you to do your homework or remind you of a school related task.
It's a rare occasion anymore to get a family picture...everyone who lives at home was here, so I guess that makes your birthday pretty special!
I don't quite remember, but I'm thinking that since you are dressed in your school shirt AND in my bed that you woke up and had a hard time waiting for your breakfast in bed, but you did a pretty good job pretending to be surprised.
Your special request for a cake was a unicorn cake.  I had this one made at a bakery and she was very excited about how beautiful it was!
Someone else must have been pretty excited about it too as seen by the finger swipe through one of the eyes.  :)  The cake was huge and everyone was so excited to have a piece.  I think the cake will be long remembered.  The frosting was very thick, and I have a lot of frosting lovers, so the excitement continued to grow.  Unanimously, the frosting was NOT a hit.  It was almost all butter, every bit of it, like eating a tub of whipped butter.  As disappointing as it was, we laughed an awful lot!!
Eight was a big year that included your First Holy Communion too.
Your class was the last class of communicants with Monsignor which added another layer of special-ness!

Your dress was previously your Grandma A's wedding dress, which she was ready to toss in the garbage when they moved.  Mattie's was made from Grandma S's dress.  I'm not sure what we will do for your little sisters!  I consider myself a fairly decent seamstress, but fashioning a dress in this manner is a challenge, so no purple ribbons would have been awarded for my effort, but you sure looked beautiful!

Your grandma looked pretty beautiful in this dress too!  It was very special that the same dress was part of two different sacraments over 50 years apart!
The day was indeed special!  Receiving Jesus for the very first time and so many friends and family members to celebrate with you.

What a beautiful event.  We are all so very proud of the lovely little girl you are and the wonderful young lady you are becoming!
Happiest of birthdays Amelia Therese!  We are so glad you were born and you are our favorite Amelia in the world!
