City Slickers

We may live in the city, but anytime the opportunity presents itself to don cowboy boots and hats and make believe that we aren't city folk, we jump!
The kids love going to Grandpa and Grandma's farm to help do just about anything, but I think their favorite is branding.

It's not quite the operation that I grew up with.  It's a little smaller scale these days, but no matter, the concept is the same!
The calves are separated from the cows, roped one at a time and brought out of the corral to get a brand, a tag and a vaccination.  Everyone has a job (or shares a job).
Above are the gate keepers.  :)
These two were sore after wrestling 300 lb calves!

Ya...it doesn't smell that great!

Always room for a little extra fun too.  Ben has a little way to go before he beats the buzzer though.

Everyone got their turn helping somehow.
There were a lot of perma-grins this day!

Penny's first branding experience and a horse ride too!

It didn't take very long to finish, but it's 5o'clock somewhere.
That's Pepsi in those cans, just in case you're wondering.  :)

The crew...Cash and Annie were joined by six of their friends from CO.
Penny and Willa got to meet each other for the first time.

The house was full of family and friends...just as any great weekend should be.
