"C" Week

The lettered snack of the day continues to be popular as we finish week three, or week "C".  Try as we might though, the actual art of sitting at the table at the same time and having conversation or starting homework or even constructively offering a review of the snack is not happening as I have imagined it would.  No worries.  I'm not ready to give up yet.  Maybe by the time we're half way through, we could actually get to the point where we're associating the snack with the letter of the week!  :)

It has apparently been a busy enough week that I haven't posted anything since "B" Week!  It has been busy, but busy in a different way.  I've been at home from 7 am to 2:45 pm every single day.  That probably doesn't sound like much, but it is huge.  So huge that it almost takes an adjustment period to figure out how to prioritize my time differently.  We've had wonderful naps that can start early enough in the day that they don't have to be cut short when it is time to leave for school pick-up.  We've played outside in the dirt and mud because we don't have to stay clean to go somewhere later.  We've played between breakfast and lunch because we were home, not in a car.  The house is clean, the laundry is...well, still not done, but it's not piled high either...the bikes have been ridden, lost library books found.  I don't feel like I've been productive in that "hurry up and get something done fast" kind of way, rather the "I can take my time and stop to smell the roses" kind of way.

Finally!  He has been without a bike since his tricycle got run over.  Everyone had to "move up" one bike!  It didn't take him long to figure it out and since he has, it's the first thing he wants to do in the morning and the last thing at the end of the day.
I know that I took convenience for granted when we lived in Lincoln.  The idea of heading out the door at 3:10 to pick up kids from school, or having somewhere to be at 4:30, making our time at home so rushed seemed so inconvenient at the time, but now, it would seem effortless compared to our current considerations on a daily basis that dictate when and how we do something.  At any rate, I was just thrilled to have the opportunity to watch Joe ride a bike since I finally took time to put training wheels on it, and let him help me make cookies because they didn't have to be made in record time.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching Amelia and Joe play together and on another day eaves drop on the funniest conversations between Ben and Joe.

This is a most common sight these days.  Millie is always eager to offer a kiss!  Pucker up!!

Said by Joe:  "Eww!  Mill messed up her face!"  We were previewing the bagels and cream cheese.

Not too messy for a kiss though!  I love it.

Even the evenings were more laid back and offered time for a game of baseball.

It is important to dress the part...even if the shoes are on the wrong feet.

This week was "C" week.  Every day we talked about the letter C and what words start with C and what C says and what it looks like.  When I ask Joe what the letter of the week is, his answer is always the same:  "Apple".  (From week one where "A is for apple..."  The following made the cut for C Week snacks:

  Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cake with Apples and Chocolate Milk  (Thanks for an amazing recipe Staci!)

Chicken salad on mini waffles  (This apparently didn't look like it was going to be very tasty, so everyone was a little aprehensive.  They all changed their minds though after the first bite and found themselves fighting over the last ones!

Cinnamon Crunch Bagels with (Hazelnut) Cream Cheese from Panera.  I couldn't resist these...that's a lot of C's and a bonus because they're my favorite!
Crackerwhiches along with the fun, finale snack...

Creepy Crawly Critter Cupcakes.  Have I mentione how much I'm enjoying this "Hello Cupcake" book?  :)  Couldn't resist this one either...especially since I had the time to make them this week!

And for the ultimate conclusion to C week, Cowboy Grandma and Grandpa arrived tonight for the weekend!  It will be a fun weekend I'm sure!
